Cake for Bridal Shower
Today was the big day to make a cake for a Bridal Shower that my friend is throwing. I am so excited to be asked to do this. It's such a great opportunity for me and I just hope that the people that attend the shower will love it. I ended up piping the brides initial on the top with dots around the edges and then decorating the bottom of the cake with small red roses and ivy. It turned out really good (for my first cake). I was pleasantly surprised with how much easier it is to frost and decorate a cake with the appropriate tools. I am looking forward to many more cakes to be made for people for birthdays, showers and maybe someday I can work up to weddings. I can dream!

Getting Ready for Cake
I spent some time today getting ready to do my cake for this weekend. I made some frosting and used my new bag with tips to try out some decorating. I want to do small dots all over the edge of the cake so I did quite a few practice dots. I think I might also do a large M in frosting on top of the cake for the bride (Mary). My biggest concern right now is I am going to frost the cake in an off white frosting and then I would like to do the letter and dots in Red and I'm a little worried about that, but I guess I'll never know if it works if I don't give it a try.
Today has also been a day for laundry. For some reason, I enjoy laundry more when it is an all day experience. If I just keep putting in load after load and when the clothes are dry, I fold them and put everything away. If I do one load at a time it ends up sitting in the washer or dryer and I just forget about it.
One of my new projects is keeping my kitchen clean. I have been doing a pretty good job for the past two weeks. One of my problems with the kitchen is that if I don't feel like cleaning it then I leave it for the next day and then it just piles up and gets ugly. I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to clean up after each meal. Just put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and wash of the counters. It's a little sad that it has taken me 37 years to start to figure this out, but at least it is working for me now. Recently, I spent a couple of weeks with Craig's Aunt in New Hampshire and I was inspired by how clean she kept her kitchen and I watched how she did it and I brought her tricks home. Thank you, Auntie Pat!

Process of Discovery
I have been spending time recently thinking about what I want to do when I grow up. Isn't that great since I am 37! Well, better late than never. My problem is that I am a little bit interested in a lot of different things, but they all seem to be creative type things. I hope you enjoy my notes on each new project I take on in my quest to find my true passion.
I am prepping for a big project that I have coming up this weekend. I have been asked to make a cake and decorate it for a Bridal Shower that my friend is throwing. I love to bake and have been experimenting with my cake decorating so this is a great opportunity for me. I'll keep you posted over the next few days. Wish me luck!
I made a great pasta salad for dinner tonight. It was very simple and great for summer. I used elbow macaroni, grape tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, olive oil, salt and pepper. I served it cold with some Chicken Sausage. My family seemed to enjoy it. Here are some pictures, but I am still figuring out how to take good pictures of my food. I'll keep practicing.
Our yard needs lots of work, but since it is overwhelming I am working on picking small sections at a time.
Today I started working on the section of the back yard near the gate. I removed grass and weeds and sprinkled the ground with weed preventer. I still need to take out more grass and weeds to clear the entire area. I'm hoping to plant wildflowers along the fence and put some sort of stone pathway from the gate into the yard. I haven't decided what to plant along the house. Let me know if you have any great ideas!
Earlier this week I worked on some other projects. One was making new pillows for the living room. Three have been completed and I probably need to do 4 to 5 more.
I picked up some sunflowers at our local farmers market and put together a simple arrangement.
Hope you enjoy this blog and pictures and check back for more in the future!
